29th April saw the English open at Walsall. Comberton JC had four athletes fighting in both junior and senior. We had entered the event with high hopes, expect 1-2 medals from this very young team and despite some excellent fights we didn't get the medals we had hoped for.
All four players managed to finish 5th (one win off a medal!) - Ben and Rowan in the Juniors, Jessie and Toby in the seniors. It's fair to say the fights were a mixed bag with all players having some great fights and some not so good ones. With such a young team everything is a learning curve and on the Sunday we had seven athletes at the national Randori which was a great day with some great fights, there were about 80 athletes on each session. We're already preparing for the next events - the Eastern area team championships on the 14th May and then the London open on the 20th and 21st May. Here's a short video of some of the days throws.....
