Harvey is a 7yo judo player at Comberton JC and as part of the fundraising that he has done by doing a sponsored swim he gave the club a cheque tonight for £178.33 as a thank you to all at the club for all the support that they give him. He also donated to Centre 33 who support his sister as a young carer and a horse riding club. For those of you that don't know Harvey, he has Autism Spectrum Disorder and is classed as none verbal. In our judo classes Harvey needs one to one support from our coaching team. Below are some pictures and a video of Harvey at the club. The money will be used to by a training dummy so that we can introduce Harvey to throwing more easily.
29th April saw the English open at Walsall. Comberton JC had four athletes fighting in both junior and senior. We had entered the event with high hopes, expect 1-2 medals from this very young team and despite some excellent fights we didn't get the medals we had hoped for.
All four players managed to finish 5th (one win off a medal!) - Ben and Rowan in the Juniors, Jessie and Toby in the seniors. It's fair to say the fights were a mixed bag with all players having some great fights and some not so good ones. With such a young team everything is a learning curve and on the Sunday we had seven athletes at the national Randori which was a great day with some great fights, there were about 80 athletes on each session. We're already preparing for the next events - the Eastern area team championships on the 14th May and then the London open on the 20th and 21st May. Here's a short video of some of the days throws..... |
